Off the Grid Fridays — Labor Day Plans

Dudes, I’m totally going off the blogging grid so I can celebrate Labor Day weekend with Kennyboi.

What are you doing? Where are you going? What are you eating?

I plan on eating nothing but salt, butter, and sugar. Imma wash that down with some alcohol.

Go Labor!

First Hawkeye tailgate tomorrow (oh yeah and game). It’s Caribbean and seafood theme so it’s catfish tacos, jerk chicken and who knows what else. Monday, it’s pigsicles (ribs). Sunday…sleep.

My husband and I will literally be laboring and hanging drywall in our kitchen. We’re totally gutting it and remodeling ourselves. I’ve been living out of boxes since April, and the hanging of drywall seems to represent a major step forward in our progress. Some burgers and/or ribs on the grill will be included in the drywall festivities. Enjoy your weekend!

I am volunteering at the Highland Games. A scottish festival that very closely mirrors REAL Highland Games in Scotland. I have been to some Highland Games in a small Scottish town and I would recommend it for anyone that travels to Scotland. But this one in the good old USA serves it’s purpose well. There will be the caber toss, hammer throw and all that He-man type stuff with guys in kilts. There will be Celtic dancing and music. There will be Scotch Whiskey and Irn Bru! And Haggis. But most importantly, there will be the Celtic K-9′s which is where I will be. They gather rescue groups from all the British breeds and show them off and talk about their history. I will be there with my Shelties!

I will eat fish tacos, crab legs, and maybe even some fried chicken. I will sleep past 5am. I will be at the beach (but not our beach), I will drink serious drinks, I will hopefully catch good waves, and I will forget about the dermatologist’s negativity and the birthday waiting when I get home and reinvent my summer tan.

The most dramatic thing I’ll be doing all weekend is moving from one side of the couch to the other.

Also: a little grilling and a lot of wine.

Camping in northern MN and lots of wakeboarding. My new favorite camping food is Pizza Rolls on a stick. Roast them in the fire like you roast marshmallows.

My weekend starts today with lounging around and enjoying the (finally) cool weather here in the upper Midwest. Pontoon booze cruise tomorrow on the lake with pulled pork sandwiches and plenty of homebrew beer. Extended family time on Sunday, grilling some blue cheese burgers and playing some bean bag toss (cornhole to some). Monday plans are TBD but hopefully involve sleeping in.

Laurie September 6, 2010 at 6:20 pm

yup, we played cornhole in kalamazoo. love that name.

A party here, hanging out there, an overdue haircut thrown in, and packing everywhere in between as I have the joy of moving next weekend. Like MattyMat, sleep is slated to play a key role. Enjoy avoiding labor on Labor Day! :)
